Racism Is Alive and Well in America

In the past few months a lot has been said and written about racism in America. Especially in view of the fact that we have our first candidate on a major ticket who is African American. It is sad that we live in a country that is so great yet there seems to be a great divide among our people. Yet in my humble opinion those who are playing the race card are those who are yelling "racism" the loudest and the very ones who are making this presidential election about race.

I read the following poem by the widely known poet Nikki Giovanni, Professor of English and Black Studies at Virginia Tech. Here is one of the poems she has written:

"Ni**er
Can you kill
Can you kill
Can a ni**er kill
Can a ni**er kill a honkie
Can a ni**er the Man
Can you kill a ni**er
Huh? Ni**er can you kill
Do you know how to draw blood
Can you poison
Can you stab a Jew
Can you kill huh? Ni**er
Can you kill
Can you run a protestant down with your
'68 El Dorado
(that's all they good for anyway)
Can you kill
Can you p*ss on a blond head
Can you cut it off
Can you kill
A ni**er can die
We ain't got to prove we can die
We got to prove we can kill...."
++++++++
Excerpt from her bio: ".......Giovanni remains as determined and committed as ever to the fight for civil rights and equality."
This is a lady who has received numerous awards along with 21 honorary degrees!

Yes, racism is alive and well and we can thank educators like Giovanni for keeping it alive and well!
